Technology and Data Analysis

Description:

Large volumes of information about crime and public safety is located on the internet.  But the sites are frequently not user friendly and hard to navigate.  Also information can be inconsistent from internet site to internet site.  The first element of this task force is data analysis, which will work to identify best sources of public safety information, share knowledge of internet sites with other task force members to build data competencies and decide on projects to analyze.  The second element of this task force is communication of information discovered.   The analysis and identification of trends will be presented at certain Monthly Meetings of the District Council.

Helpful Skills:

  • While not required to be a member of this task force, the following data and communication skills are very much appreciated:
    • Excel worksheets skills to dump data from internet , slice and dice data and create excel formulas to analyze data

    • Database skills

    • Knowledge of current internet databases on crime and public safety

    • Communication skills of Powerpoint, Excel data charts or graphic design

    • Public Relations and writing skills to summarize findings

Membership:  If you are a data geek, please join this task force!  If you have any of the skills mentioned above, please join this task force.  There is not a requirement to live in the 18th District, but our analysis will focus on 18th District and some city-wide data.
